The Shine of Suffering :: 2 Thessalonians

Presented at Curwensville Alliance on 07/21/24 by Pastor Steve Shields.

Listen as Pastor Steve speaks on how we can shine through suffering.

We shine more and more as we grow in Christ. We shine more and more as we press on. We shine more and more as we prove God right.

Suffering can be difficult. Suffering is unfair. God is going to make a radical adjustment.

Shining is a journey. There is something about suffering and staying the course that brings a blessing that nothing else can. Suffering is a time to shine for your own benefit. We should pray for one another. Pray that we would shine in suffering.

Suffering :: KEYSTONES OF CHRISTIAN FAITH

Presented at Curwensville Alliance on 2/14/21 by Pastor Steve Shields.

Have you ever thought about Suffering being a keystone of Christian faith?

There are two ways that suffering is a Keystone of Christian Faith. It is part of the Christian Experience. Our response to suffering is the real keystone.

Why is it so important to suffer well? Suffering is inevitable in life. Suffering can create in you what couldn’t be created otherwise. Suffering well speaks loudly about your faith and your God.

Pastor Steve will lead us through 1 Peter 4:1-11 to show us Peter’s imperatives on suffering. They include to arm ourselves with Christ’s mindset, live with an eye turned toward eternity and love one another.

Lies Even Seasoned Christians Can Believe – Avoid Suffering at All Costs!

Presented by Pastor Steve Shields at Curwensville Alliance Church on 4/15/2018

An aged saint lay in the nursing home, unable to get out of bed. The end of her journey on this earth was coming to a close.

She was a matriarch in our church. She taught people about Jesus since her teen years. She prayed faithfully for those who had needs. She loved and was loved.

She was a woman of faith.

But this day, that faith seemed to waiver.

I’ll never forget her words

“I never thought it would come to this.”

She’s not alone.

I’ve heard many saints make the same remark when they encounter suffering — of many kinds.

We tend to react in the exact way Peter told us not to react.

1 Peter 4:12-13 (NIV2011) 12Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.

This podcast speaks of the value of suffering — and how to get the most out of it that you can.
