Responding To Correction :: PODCAST

Presented on September 10, 2017 by Pastor Steve Shields at Curwensville Alliance

Have you ever seen someone doing something that was unproductive, offered a suggestion to help them, and been rebuffed? It happens to all of us.

Do you know why that happens to all of us? Because all of us do it. None of us, by our own nature, like to be corrected.

This podcast speaks about how to overcome this tendency and become better in the process.

The Beast In Me :: PODCAST

Presented at Curwensville Alliance by Pastor Steve Shields on February 20, 2017

I recently heard someone say, “I believe people are basically good.”

I’d like to believe that. Do you?

The Bible teaches that people are made in the image of God. And God is good, so one would think that people would be good. And, at many times, times when they are living well, people reflect God’s goodness. But the Bible also teaches that people are “fallen”. That we once held a position of perfection, and lost that through sin. That sin tainted the human race, and to this day, it taints almost all we do.

How do you deal with this reality, day to day? Do you hide? Do you simply accept the fact that your life is marred by sin? Do you try to cover up? Do you look for answers?

The answer is found in the opening chapters of the Bible — and it carries on throughout the remainder of the Scripture text.

This podcast speaks of our sinful nature, and explains God’s remedy.

Real Life – By the Spirit :: PODCAST

Presented at Curwensville Alliance Church on 2/12/2017 by Pastor Steve Shields

One of the most important parts of living the Christian life is realizing that the Holy Spirit is available to help us. But, according to at least one survey, many Christians don’t really know His role.

When you begin to explore what the Bible teaches about the Holy Spirit, you discover that He provides us with the kinds of things Jesus would provide us with.

He gives us a heightened sense of right and wrong, so we can avoid shame and guilt. He gives us an assurance that we belong to God, so we don’t have to fear the lies of the enemy. He creates good things in our lives–like love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, so that we can have healthy relationships. And He leads us and empowers us, so our lives can be worth living.
