Coping with Great Loss :: PODCAST

Presented on 3/12/2017 by Pastor Steve Shields at Curwensville Alliance Church

Mary Ann was light of Bob’s life. He was that dad — the one who doted on his daughter, and seemed to come alive when she entered the room. And why not? She was beautiful, gracious, and bright. When she moved to another state, he was sorry she’d left, but excited about what her future would be like.

And then the unthinkable happened. Mary Ann became sick and died — in a very short period of time. Bob was devastated. He was never the same. What parent would be the same after burying a child. But for Bob, it was different. His loss defined him — so much so that years later, his wife would say, “Our daughter died, and Bob’s not himself,” to new people they would meet.

I don’t judge Bob. I feel for him. My heart aches for him — not just because of his loss, but because that loss came to define who he was.

Pain can do that.

Pain can define who we are. But does it have to?

This podcast addresses that question.

PODCAST: How Jesus Can Give Life to Your Life

Presented on 5/22/2016 at Curwensville Alliance.

Do you know people who have names that specifically describe them? If you know a guy named Moose, he might be the guy I am talking about. Names often speak about us — especially if they are given to us by those who have seen how we live.

The name “Jesus” was given to the Lord before he was born. The angel gave it to him. Call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sin. But Jesus has other names. Names given him by Scripture. Names he gave himself.

One name he gave himself is The Resurrection and the Life. We generally think of this as referring to the end of the age, when the dead in Christ will rise. But as you explore Scripture and experience a life of walking with God, you see that Jesus resurrects more than our physical bodies.

This podcast speaks of the life he gives beyond the grave.

PODCAST: Three Essential Resurrections

Presented at Curwensville Alliance by Pastor Steve Shields on 3/27/2016

If you’re going fishing, there are a few essentials you need. Maybe a fishing pole, or other apparatus to use for catching the fish. Maybe some kind of bait. And a license. It’s really hard to fish without those kinds of things. They are essentials.

Likewise, when it comes to the Christian Celebration of the Resurrection, there are some essentials. This podcast addresses three of them that we need to be aware of — and one we should experience right away.
