How to Get the Most Out of God :: PODCAST

Presented at Curwensville Alliance Church by Pastor Steve Shields on 10/22/2017

If you came here because of the title of this post to get some pointers on using God to your advantage, you’re going to be disappointed. And blessed.

Blessed like The Prodigal Son.

He wanted to use his father’s resources to honor his own selfish interests. And he found that it didn’t work. And on his way home to use his father as a source of employment, he met a father who’d been looking down the lane — awaiting his return.

I like to think that it was at that moment that the son realized what was really important in life — the love of a father and the response of a child.

Christians often talk about having a relationship with God. This is what we mean. You can’t used God as you would use any other resource. Instead, he offers you his heart of love and asks that you love him in return.

This podcast speaks of how this happens in our lives — the lives of prodigals.

PODCAST: Life-Building: Building a Life of Grace

Presented on 7/24/2016 by Pastor Steve Shields at Curwensville Alliance Church

What kind of life are you building? A life of love? A life of sacrifice? A life of faith?

ALifeOfGrace

Have you ever thought about building a life of grace? Doing so may be one of the most counter-cultural things you can do today. Have you seen any of the election coverage? There’s an old saying: Voters get exactly who they deserve. If that’s the case, we deserve some of the most ungracious people I’ve ever seen.

Please don’t take your cue from politicians as they are slinging mud. Take it from Jesus. Build a life of grace. That’s what this podcast tries to help you with.

PODCAST: Got Longings?

Presented by Pastor Steve Shields at Curwensville Alliance on 11/22/2015

Have you ever had that feeling of desire for something very specific? It happens pretty frequently in our house.

STEVE: I’m feeling kind of like a snack.
LAUREL: How about some cheese and crackers?
STEVE: Nah. I’m hungry for something specific. I just can’t think of what.
LAUREL: How about some veggies?
STEVE: Uh-uh. I am never hankerin’ for veggies, Honey.
LAUREL: Do you want a sandwich?
STEVE: Hmm…. No.
LAUREL: Chocolate?
STEVE: THAT’S IT! (with the enthusiasm of Lucy, when she recognizes Jingle-bells and bowls Schroeder over.)

Sometimes we have very specific hungers — very specific desires — many of which are God-given.

Some hungers we have come when we begin to see the greatness of God’s grace toward us. This Podcast helps you address such longings.
